From first email to first article samples in your hands: typically 30-40 days. Mold design takes 5-7 days, fabrication 15-25 days, and testing/sampling 5-7 days. Mass production adds another 20-30 days depending on order volume. Total project lead time: 60-95 days.

How much does a custom mold cost from a plastic packaging manufacturer in China?

Mold tooling costs range from $800 for a simple single-cavity prototype to $8,000+ for a 48-cavity high-volume production mold. Most projects fall in the $1,500-$3,500 range. Mold cost is one-time and amortized over your first 100,000 units of production.

Can I see samples before committing to a mold?

Yes. Before steel is cut, we provide 3D CAD renderings and 3D-printed prototypes (small fee, refunded on order) so you can hold a physical version of your packaging. After mold testing, you receive 5-10 first article samples for hands-on evaluation before mass production starts.

Do you protect my design from being copied?

Yes. Standard process: we sign a mutual NDA before any design files are exchanged. Custom molds are stored separately from our stock mold inventory. Your CAD files, artwork, and product information are kept in a restricted-access digital vault and never shared with other clients or third parties.

What if I want to move my mold to another factory later?

After 100,000 units of production, mold ownership is fully transferable. We will ship the mold to any factory or warehouse you specify. We don't believe in trapping clients with mold hostage tactics — if you outgrow us or want to dual-source, we support that decision.

What file formats do you accept for designs?

We work with SolidWorks (.sldprt, .sldasm), AutoCAD (.dwg, .dxf), STEP (.step, .stp), IGES (.igs, .iges), and STL (.stl). If you only have hand sketches, photos, or a competitor sample, we can also work from those — our engineers convert any input into a manufacturing-ready CAD file.

What's the smallest custom project you take on?

Smallest custom mold project we have done: $800 mold + 5,000-piece initial run for a startup. We support startups and small brands because we know small clients today often become large clients in 3-5 years. No project is too small if the design is feasible.

Can you provide all certifications for custom plastic packaging?

Yes. Every custom production includes complete documentation: FDA 21 CFR food contact certification, SGS material test reports, REACH compliance declarations, BRC packaging certification, and migration test results. Specific testing for your destination market (e.g. California Proposition 65) available on request.
